Over 15 years ago, Robert Kidd – an experienced document editor – was working to deadline and realized that handling the tremendous collection of manuscripts he faced was no longer feasible. The very next day he began collecting contact information for qualified, experienced freelance editors he could share his workload with. From there, the seed of what EditFast would become had germinated. A space where editors could “get together” and water-cooler chat about their work and collect information for maintaining and improving their skill.
Robert Kidd has connections to proofreaders, copy editors, developmental editors, and even copy writers to help enhance, clarify, and clean up literally any style of writing a person may produce. Based on his own varied experience with the world of document editing, Robert can confirm or deny an editor’s skill by vetting them with the profile building and skill testing elements of his website.
EditFast is also set up to provide authors with the ability to maintain control over their projects and the style of editing they want applied to their documents. Once the author has chosen to work with EditFast, they can conduct a search for their own editor or submit their document to Robert directly, who will then choose an editor he believes is best suited to meet the author’s expectations and needs. From there, the terms of the desired edits are ironed out, and edits don’t begin on the project until both the author and selected editor are clear on the goals and expectations of that project. Costs are determined at this stage, as well. Again, no work begins on the project until both the editor and the author are agreed on the terms. At this stage, Robert becomes a mediator, supplying the author’s specific wishes to the editor, who determines if those needs can be met within the suggested or requested time frame.
Payments are made to the editors after a 30-day waiting period, which gives the author a great amount of time to read over and either accept or reject the provided edits. Robert mediates this conversation, as well, informing the editor to the author’s issues with or acceptance of the work. Payments are mediated by Robert, as well. Any estimates provided on a submitted project are free and do not bind you to the editor or even EditFast. Authors and writers always maintain total control over their projects and the goals for editing them. Editors are treated with respect and honesty by an adept networker who’s been where they are and understands that diplomacy and transparency are the best elements to this kind of working relationship.
